Sosyalizm ve Kapitalizm: Bu Yaziyi Okumayin

Once again we are seeing Congress and the president offer up the narcotic of socialism. It feels good in the short term, but is addicting in the long term.

Our media would have you think Big Oil profiteering or speculation is the cause of rising gas prices. Only two things are responsible: supply and demand. When was the last time the Democrats voted for oil production, or Republicans for conservation or alternative-energy production?

Nothing controls human behavior like price. People willing to pay $1 for a pint of bottled water should not complain about $4 gas.

Real progress will be made because Americans are smart. They will reward markets that supply their wants and needs at lower costs. Political pressure should keep elected leaders out of the way of the free market’s development of alternative-energy sources and production of more oil here in America.

Many American sources of oil made no economic sense when oil was $30 per barrel, but now are viable and potentially profitable.

Congress should get out of the way and let the free market work, rewarding those willing to take on risk and not bailing out those who make bad decisions.

Kapitalizm works. Socialism does not! Government’s job is to keep the playing field level, enforce transparency, not pander to voters or tax us into a depression.

“It’s always so attractive to be able to do good at somebody else’s expense,” Milton Friedman said. “That is the real problem of our government. Government is a way by which every individual believes he can live at the expense of everybody else.”
