Is the actual percentage of LGBT population in the
world as the separate figures suggest? Is it possible that percentage of gay
population varies greatly between some countries, since the global state of gay
population is 3-5%. Well, obviously not.
There are several problems with numbers and statistics
in this case. First, surveys that are undertaken are often not wide enough, not
covering huge sample of population, but that is understandable. Second issue
concerns the people themselves. In some countries getting out of the closet is
not nearly as easy as it should be, since tolerance towards gay population and
their incorporation as equal part of society is not accepted. But those are
usually countries with high religious
impact, and less freedom of speech, which brigs with itself insufficient
knowledge about what being gay really means.
And what is the situation in the US? What is it like
to be gay in the America in 21st century? Even though gay marriage
is nowadays legalized in every state, it is not everywhere rainbows and sunshine.
…around 70s and onwards, many states have repealed the criminalization of same-sex sexual activities, which lead to opening new opportunities for incorporating LGBT community in society and accepting homosexuality as a part of a normal life. So, as the time went on gays were given more and more rights, including adoption, healthcare, and all the rights that heterosexual couples and individuals have. The question of same-sex marriage though is still somewhat a tough subject it seems, though it has been legalized in all states in recent years. Most of the states have legalized same-sex marriage only in the recent decade.
