Serial killers seem to have a weird kind of fascination surrounding them in America. If I didn't know any better, I'd say some people actually look up to them. After all, some of the more famous serial killers in America, such as John Wayne Garcy, and the Zodiac Killer, are as well known as famous celebrities! In a way, I guess this reverence could be considered reverence.
However, while serial killers are a trope unto themselves in the US, cannibal serial killers, which are a whole different ball game, are not quite as well-known, maybe because the descriptions of their crime are quite lewd and beyond what an ordinary person may be able to digest. I recently came across an article which described some of the most successful cannibal serial killers in America. The article starts in a creepy tone, suiting the topic as well.
