Population decline can refer to the decline in population of any organism, but this article refers to population decline in humans. It is a term usually used to describe any great reduction in a human population. It can be used to refer to long-term demographic trends, as in sub-replacement fertility, urban decay, white flight or rural flight, but it is also commonly employed to describe large reductions in population due to violence, disease, or other catastrophes. Insidermonkey experts made a list of top 12 countries with declining population.
The United Nations recently released a report projecting the world’s population to reach 9.7 billion by 2050, before peaking at 11.2 billion by 2100. As many people are stunned by these figures, neglect that some countries are in fact rapidly losing population at the same time. Just as a rapid increase in population causes concerns related to the gradual running out of natural resources (food, housing, jobs and physical space, etc.), sudden declines in population raise concerns as well in regards to a country’s economic stability, communal harmony and global identity.
