New York isn't generally thought of as a great place to retire. In fact, the state is ranked as the seventh worst state for retirees, mainly thanks to its high cost of living. But new rankings from Niche.com suggest that if you are planning to retire in New York, Long Island or the lower Hudson Valley is the place to be. The rankings take into account key factors, such as weather, crime rates, residents 65 and older, housing costs, and access to amenities such as restaurants, golf courses, exercise facilities, and doctors, in an attempt to measure the appeal of an area for retirement, Niche says.
