The African Development Bank reports in Tracking Africa’s Progress in Figures that 11 Fastest Growing Cities in Africa Tanzania’s largest city and the country’s trading hub, will outpace all other African cities in growth between 2010 and 2025, followed by Nairobi, Kenya; Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo; Luanda, Angola; and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Describing urbanization as “a pan-African phenomenon,” the bank estimates that between 1960 and 2011, Africa’s urban population rose from 19 percent to 39 percent, and projects that 50 percent of Africans will live in urban areas by 2040.
The world is moving to the city. No part of the planet is urbanizing faster than sub-Saharan Africa. The continent’s population of roughly 1.1 billion is expected to double by 2050. More than 80% of that growth will occur in cities, especially slums. The outcome of this unprecedented urban transition depends on what Africa’s political, business and civic leaders do next. If they take the right steps, innovation, employment and economic growth will follow. If they do not, they can expect poverty, sluggish economies and instability. Many African cities, and thus the continent as a whole, are at a tipping point. A list of 11 Fastest Growing Cities in the World has made by our InsiderMonkey's expert if you want you can check it.
