Franchising
is the practice of for some period of
time the right to use the successful business model of the firm and brand. You
can look at the franchise as an alternative to having ‘chain stores’ to distribute
goods, but in this manner you can avoid the liability of a chain. In terms of
distribution, the franchisor is a supplier that enables a franchise, or an
operator, to use the trademark of the supplier and to distribute his or hers
goods. In return, the operator has to pay a fee to the supplier.
This
phenomenon has been present for the past three decades, but it has gotten its boom
in the past few years. Also, some of the most
profitable franchises are still present and they set an example of why
should entrepreneurs go for this method. But, even if this method is the best solution
for many businessmen, it doesn’t always bring a success. Just like with
everything else, there is always a risk.
There are several factors that imply whether a franchise
is set to a success or not. Some of those factors are the location of the particular
industry and how much that industry has grown throughout the years. Also, the management
and the fact how much the brand and the trademark of the company has become
stronger. Other factors that contribute to the success of a particular
franchise are the impact and the power of the brand it represents, the profit, and
the growth of the niche where that franchise operates.
